Beauty Detox: A 5-Step Guide

There are days when our face looks perfect on photographs, and it’s enough for us to take only one selfie in order to be satisfied. However, there are those other days when our skin looks so bad and could definitely use a detox. “Detox” has been a trending buzzword for some time now, so there are plenty of ways in which you could help your skin get rid of all the toxins. But what are the best ways for doing this? Take a look at this simple five-step guide.

Detox through proper diet

It might sound unusual, but the food you eat can have its effects on your skin. Even though you love fried food or mac and cheese, they are not really helpful for maintaining a healthy and fresh skin. Once you choose to do a full detox of your body, firstly get rid of all the foods that are bad for your skin. Stay away from fried food, dairy products and added sugar as they tend to clog your pores and dull your skin. Instead, you should go with foods that are rich in alkaline such as broccoli, kale, pears and watermelon. Moreover, always stay hydrated. It is very important for your skin to absorb all the water it can so that it can keep its elasticity and freshness.

Skin hydration and protection

Since we mentioned the importance of skin hydration, it’s important to note that there are other things that should be done in order to properly hydrate your skin, apart from drinking plenty of water. First of all, serums play a crucial role in this part and should be used twice a day (in the morning and in the evening).
Serums do not only hydrate your skin, they also allow everything you put on top to get deeper into your skin, thus allowing better results. Moreover, enrich your skincare routine with proper moisturizers, some  vitamin E capsules, creams and oils. The latter should be used once or twice a week, regardless of your skin type – if you have oily skin, using the proper oils can help in making sure the pores don’t get clogged.

Cleansing and steaming

This is not a matter of preference – face cleansing should be a daily task, but of course, if you want to cleanse your skin properly, you should do this both in the morning and evening. Once you decide to start cleansing your skin, you should carefully select the cleansers according to your skin type. It’s good to know that you should use different cleansers in the morning and in the evening so that your skin gets all the proper ingredients – for example, an oil cleanser in the morning and a foam cleanser at night will give your face the cleanse and hydration it needs.
However, you can use the cleanser both times a day if that is your preference. Also, make sure to steam your face in order to allow the ingredients to penetrate your face. If you don’t possess a steam shower, you can do that at home in a couple of minutes. Take a pan of boiling water, hover your face above it and keep it like that for 5-10 minutes.

Face masks

One of the quickest but very effective ways to cleanse your face and give it everything it needs are definitely face masks. Ranging from clay masks to mud masks, there is a plethora of choices for your skin type. However, you should make sure to use a good activated charcoal mask at least once a week. Even though it’s not that glamorous (but can look pretty emo or goth if you’re into it), it’s proven to be very healthy for your skin. It makes the pores smaller and cleaner, helps with oily skin and acne and cleans your face in the best way possible.

Dry brushing

One of the trendiest ways for a skin cleanse nowadays is dry brushing. It is an easy but very powerful way to enhance the detox process, and it helps with exfoliating skin, removing toxins and reducing cellulite (due to the massaging effect of the bristles). The only thing that you need is a natural bristle brush with a long handle so that you could brush all the body parts effectively.

Doing a detox is very important, and the key is to incorporate at least some ways of it into your life. Even though you won’t always say no to a pizza or fries, having at least a simple detox cleansing routine for your face or skin is a must. Make these minor changes for the greater good!
